Message from our VCE Economics Teacher

One of the many challenges that we have as teachers during online classes is how to keep students engaged in the work. While we want to keep the classes interesting the content matter must be covered and it has to be relevant to what the students are studying.

My year 11 and 12 Economic students have found Quizlet to be very entertaining which is good as they are also learning while having fun. Even before the online classes began, we were running Quizlet games and it was very effective. In the team games, the students are supposed to sit next to each other as some members of the team can't answer a question until their teammate has answered it. Even in class this is challenging however the students have always found a way to make it work.

I ran an online class with a Quizlet game, unsure if the game would work as it needs communication from each group and while Zoom is good it does have its limitations. Again, the students found a way to make the game work and it was very interesting to see how interactive the game was. It is always good to see when students are enjoying themselves especially when they are learning at the same time. Our students are naturally competitive and games in general tend to get the best out of them. There is also a section within Quizlet that allows students to study before a game.

During these difficult times when it is difficult to find good news it is good to see the students smile and enjoy themselves.
